This forward-thinking sponsor wanted to break the mold of the typical senior living community typology. They sought to create an alternative patterned after town center concepts occurring in newer suburban areas.
The design team developed a site plan concept that placed it in the context of a large development plan for the surrounding property. The building was positioned as the terminus of a long, existing environmental corridor. This location in turn allows long vistas from the community back down the corridor. The building form literally wraps itself around that view using a familiar apartments-over-retail typology setting new ground for organizing a senior living campus.
From the exterior to the interior, the community was designed to complement the contemporary feel town center development in the area. The lower level common areas are intended to be engaging to both residents and members of the surrounding community. Spaces such as the spa and fitness center create opportunities for this type of community interaction and potential outreach spaces are positioned to meet specific needs as they arise.
The long-term care component of the campus offers a practical Midwestern solution to combining cutting-edge, person-centered care with efficient delivery of services.
