CHALLENGE:
To integrate a forward-thinking senior living community into an established 1,300-acre master-planned community that embraces the concepts of Smart Growth and New Urbanism.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Thoughtfully designed to integrate the senior living community and its architectural aesthetics directly into the surrounding new urbanist style community, taking advantage of the beauty of the mountains and Boise River.
  • Site challenges were turned into opportunities resulting in a plan that creates height on the site in areas that complement the foothills and then scales back in height where the cottages and country homes meet the adjacent residential neighborhood.
  • First senior living community in the state to offer household design for skilled nursing. Constructed as three, small homes, each household includes private suites surrounding an open kitchen and comfortable living space.
  • Increased operational costs did not outweigh the provider’s desire to deliver a new paradigm. The team worked closely with local authorities to address current regulations and push boundaries to support the long-term vision and goals of the residents, their families and the provider.
