Vista West, a Capri Communities senior living development in Madison, Wis., was one of five projects recognized with a 2022 Senior Living by Design Award. The award-winning projects were highlighted in the organization’s 2022 Design Report.
Argentum is the leading national association exclusively dedicated to supporting companies operating professionally managed, resident-centered senior living communities and the older adults and families they serve. Since 1990, Argentum has advocated for choice, independence, dignity, and quality of life for all older adults.
According to the Design Report, “Each award-winning design this year shares a sense of connection and community. The thoughtful use of space brings people together. Residents feel the connection to the natural world and each other, building a deep appreciation for life and a sense that they belong.”
Designed by AG Architecture and constructed by Stevens Construction, the modern structures of Vista West define the site and are punctuated by a dramatic entry sequence—a contemporary awning that offers a retail appeal within this commercial corridor. The fitness center occupies a storefront position on the first floor to hold the site edge and reinforce the mixed use aesthetic of the greater campus. The interior finish palette and furniture selections, by Direct Supply® Aptura®, evoke the feeling of a modern Northwoods lodge.
Highlights of the project include expanded outdoor gathering spaces for the safety and comfort of residents and visiting family members; including an outdoor structure with heat lamps to extend seasonal use, two outdoor fireplaces, ornamental fountains, and a large community garden. Another amenity highlight is the rooftop terrace with a view of the State Capitol.
A feature that sets this community apart is the ability of the independent living apartments to support assisted living healthcare services due to a floating Residential Care Apartment Complexes (RCAC) license. This allows residents to age in place in the apartment unit they consider home, and when needed healthcare services can be delivered directly to them without requiring them to move.
