AG’s deep roots in the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee School of Architecture & Urban Planning continue to support the positive growth of the firm’s talented team. The addition of 2025 graduate Katie Tyree adds to AG’s long list of UWM alumni.
Finding her path to architecture
While growing up in the Milwaukee area, Tyree explored creativity through drawing her natural surroundings. Due to summers spent in Alaska, it is not surprising that the outdoors provided a source of inspiration. While there, she enjoyed drawing flowers, birds, and landscapes. In addition to her creative energy, Tyree excelled academically with an aptitude for math and science.
As she contemplated the right path for her collegiate pursuits, an interest in psychology led her to the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay. Looking to push herself further, she switched to studying mechanical engineering. Then COVID-19 disrupted the world and her studies, so like many students, she paused to assess her future. This academic break allowed her to align her passion and strengths, her creative and analytical sides, and envision a future as an architect. Enrolling at UW-Milwaukee and pursuing a Bachelor of Architecture provided a perfect fit.
“Pursuing my architectural degree brought enjoyment to my studies while stimulating my mind,” describes Tyree.
Off to a great start at AG
As graduation drew near, Tyree explored job opportunities in the Milwaukee area. “I had heard good things about AG and was familiar with the firm due to the UWM Career Fair/Interview Day. The work and culture as seen on the website also impressed me.”
While she felt a little nervous heading into the interview, she said the welcoming team members quickly diffused her nerves, including Team Lead/Senior Associate Ann D’Acquisto. When she received a job offer after a second interview, she happily accepted and was pleased to be placed on D’Acquisto’s team.
“Katie is a fabulous young find,” says D’Acquisto. “She has a tremendous knowledge base for an emerging professional, and her strong drive will serve her and the team well. She is fun to work with and passionate about learning anything we give her. Katie is someone who strives for self-improvement and jumps right in to help find resolutions to project challenges. I also see her fascination with shaping her future in this industry.”
What Tyree loves the most about being part of the architectural profession is playing a role in creating buildings that impact so many people. “It is rewarding to see and be a part of all of the hard work that goes into creating the built environment,” she says. Furthermore, Tyree relishes the challenges, pace, and continuous learning.
According to D’Acquisto, “Katie is an awesome team player who fits in well with the AG culture. She was eager to start at AG, and now that she is here, I couldn’t imagine not having her on the team.”
