As an employee-owned company, AG’s next generation of architects plays an important role in continuing the firm’s legacy. Project Assistant Megan Vikse is one of the talented young team members bringing a fresh perspective and enthusiasm to our work. She works hard drafting and revising drawings to help assemble AG’s comprehensive CD packages.
From Dream Homes to Architecture School
From an early age, Vikse demonstrated an eye for design. At eight years old, a “draw and construct your own dream house” Christmas present ignited her passion for architecture. Drawing and building the home with her father fueled her curiosity for home design. Throughout her childhood, she noticed architectural details at friends’ houses and loved attending the Parade of Homes. High school drafting and art classes nurtured this fascination with the built environment. Pursuing an architectural degree at UW-Milwaukee was an easy decision—fulfilling her childhood design dreams close to home.
An Eager Young Professional
Vikse completed her Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies in just three and a half years. While residential design introduced her to architecture, school revealed the opportunities in commercial environments. Her internships and first experiences out of school exposed her to office and healthcare design, but her heart remained tied to residential.
“I realized I wanted to design places where people live and enjoy life,” describes Vikse.
This realization, and the right networking connections, brought AG Architecture to her attention. “I am so glad that I landed here. AG’s focus on places where people live allows me to combine my passion and appreciation of architecture, the perfect balance of my love of living spaces and desire to work on large-scale projects.”
Learning, Growing & Loving AG
From her background in smaller-scale interior remodeling to AG’s ground-up construction, Vikse enjoys leveling up her knowledge and experience on expansive, multi-million-dollar projects. Most of all, she appreciates the collaborative team environment supporting her career growth. “I appreciate the mentorship I am receiving,” describes Vikse. “The experienced team members teach us how to be better and why we are doing what we’re doing.”
Likewise, the team finds Vikse to be a valuable addition. “Megan consistently brings a strong work ethic and willingness to learn, quickly picking up new skills and concepts,” says AG Team Lead & Senior Associate Andy Korb. “She approaches new and difficult tasks with confidence, curiosity, and a great attitude. Megan’s ability to embrace challenges and keep moving forward makes her a valuable and dependable member of the team.”
As Vikse expands her knowledge through project work, she continues to log the hours needed with NCARB and AIA to pursue licensure in the future. She looks forward to gaining experience and identifying goals for more responsibility and leadership as she advances in the profession.
According to AG Team Lead and Senior Associate David Trinkner, “I love how Megan embraces new challenges, whether it’s project- or team-related. She seems genuinely excited to try new things, which is refreshing. It’s great having her as a part of our team. She fit in immediately, and it feels like she’s been here for years.”
Life Outside the Office
Outside of AG, Vikse explores the outdoors and expresses her creativity. She and her husband enjoy water sports and nature adventures, often with their two dogs: Guapo and Sunny. Both pups came from HAWS (Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha), where they quickly went from fosters to adopted family members.
Home remodeling projects, DIY improvements, and creative pursuits, such as painting and crafts, also fill her free time. And music has been a longtime thread in her life. Vikse sang in choir throughout high school and college. While piano and guitar didn’t quite stick, she’s interested in trying the ukulele someday.
One of Vikse’s most unique hobbies takes her yoga skills to new heights. She spent over five years developing aerial silks skills. Think Cirque du Soleil. She performs poses, flips, and drops wrapped in long hanging fabrics.
Vikse’s talents are endless, and AG is lucky to have her on our team!
