AG Architecture is pleased to announce that the campus repositioning work at Plymouth Place, a premier Life Plan community in La Grange, Illinois was honored with First Place recognition in the 2024 Senior Housing News (SHN) Architecture & Design Awards in the Renovation/Repositioning (Campus) category.

The esteemed annual awards program recognizes cutting-edge design, excellence and innovation in senior living—unique projects and companies that are improving the lives of seniors.

“The entries for the 2024 SHN Architecture & Design Awards went beyond my expectations,” said Tim Mullaney, VP, Editorial Director of WTWH Healthcare, a WTWH Media Company. “This year, nearly 80 entrants pushed the envelope on innovative architecture and design across the continuum of care. They continue to raise the standards for care, operations and amenities through breathtaking projects.”
First Place for Plymouth Place

Recognizing the rising competition, aging infrastructure, and shifting desires of prospective residents, Plymouth Place leadership took decisive action. They invested in a comprehensive market study and strategic planning process and engaged Eventus Strategic Partners to ensure thoughtful and future-focused solutions for their campus. Through in-depth focus groups and a collaborative charrette, the team developed a phased master plan to revitalize the existing campus, enhance the dining program, introduce modern wellness amenities, and offer new consumer-driven housing options.

Based on the extensive master planning process, the project encompassed the renovation and remodeling of existing spaces, including a gift shop, multi-use area, dining room, exercise areas and art studios. The new construction of a wellness-focused commons, the Center for Healthy Living (CHL), and a new Independent Living offering—The Arboreum Villas— rounded out the program.

“We are honored The Arboretum Villas are being recognized as an innovative Independent Living solution,” says AG Chief Design Officer Eric Harrmann, AIA. “Using a focus group and charrette process to blend the feedback from the existing residents with the aspirations of the future residents leads to an impactful design and successful project.”

Congratulations to Plymouth Place, Eventus Strategic Partners, AG Architecture, Spellman Brady & Company, Hitchcock Design Group, Pepper Construction, and everyone involved in the planning and construction of this repositioning effort.
