CHALLENGE:

Create a design that addresses the needs of the Evans Scholars Foundation to provide better housing at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, an architectural solution that is compatible to the historic traditions of Langdon Street and the surrounding “Frat Row”.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Developed a building that addresses the corner of Langdon and Henry Streets with an outdoor plaza that allows residents to partake in the Langdon Street activities.
  • The four-story all masonry building offers a two-story lobby space with lounge spaces on the upper floors.
  • By analyzing the architecture on Langdon Street, the team reinterpreted patterns within the new building design and façade materials that contribute to the ongoing legacy of this location.
  • Each floor offers two-and-four-bedroom suites with resident assistant accommodations.
  • Bathrooms were designed with flexibility in order to accommodate co-ed residents on each floor if desired.
