CHALLENGE:
Due to changes in the healthcare landscape, Smith Crossing wanted to expand its continuum of care and better serve the senior population in the Orland Park area with a rehabilitation solution to support short term care needs. The goal was to provide a comforting place for healing–a hospitality-inspired setting for guests to rehab, restore and relax.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The plan was designed with a conscious separation between warm and inviting, private areas and active, public spaces.
  • Nurse stations at the corners of corridor connections offer a more concierge desk appeal.
  • Corridor lengths were minimized within a circular pattern so guests can easily move from their private suites to the desired public destinations.
  • Food service plays a key role in the project. The quality food offering creates the appeal of a high-end hotel with the dynamic dining venue as an enticing destination and hub of activity,
  • A voluminous therapy suite includes a therapy kitchen, bathroom and bedroom mock-up as well as physical therapy equipment.
  • An outdoor courtyard offers a walking path with uneven surfaces and different terrains to support a comprehensive recovery program.
  • The exterior design continues the Craftsmen-style of architecture on campus.
  • A soothing interiors palette infused with art and well-appointed accessories achieves the desired hospitality-style environment.
